A short history of the Shire Horse, from Medieval times to the late 20th century, and how the heavy horse became an indispensable part of agriculture, industry and warfare.
This video plays to visitors at the National Brewery Centre museum in Burton-Upon-Trent. The museum, alongside the huge Coors brewery (once Bass), tells the story of brewing in the town when there were once over thirty breweries. In days gone by, Shire horses were the order of the day to pull drays to deliver beer to local hostelries. Shire horses are on site during busy times of the year but when they are away ‘on holiday’ this and another video we produced about grooming and tacking a Shire, provide visitors with a entertaining insight into the heritage and history of these magnificent creatures.
